Genre Research Task

1. Horror

2. In horror films there is lots of mystery and questions the audience wants answered. This makes them keep watching as they want to see how the ending will be etc. They are usually set in dark, gloomy places and there is usually a good and bad character. The bad characters usually wear darker colours/ act a certain way whereas the good characters live in nicer areas and are more happy and kind to everyone around them.

The setting also attracts the audience as would shows the type of characters that are in the film. The characters are dressed in dark gloom colours such as black, red and dark blue. The settings in Horror films are in a haunted house or set at night time to create a much more vicious scene building tension. The setting of horror films would attract the audience as this would present the character as being creepy and scary. The signifiers for example, the theme would be a dark spooky place where there is no bright lights as darkness indicates the main story of Horror. There would be a lot action which could lead to someone being killed which could lead to the film becoming more interesting and engaging. Horror genre s have lots of different sub genres and closely related genres.

The repertoire of generic elements in horror is there can be creepy creatures for example, having a snake in some parts of the content to make the audience feel like it is scary and something suspicious is going to happen. The theme is horror would be evil can sometimes include revenge and crime as in The NUN there is a lot of scenes where the characters are evil and creepy. The setting in horror films would be spooky colours for example, a plain black backdrop with creatures coming off them, genre can be understood by the setting and how the film has organised each scene to be linked to whats going on.

3. Hawaii Five-O is an action, mystery and adventure as there is a lot of murder and fighting going on. Film makers have to make the horror film different to attract the audience which can then allow them to make money and succeed with their film making. One way film makers can make their films different is by changing the film's characters to make them look or sound more spooky and engaging. For example, films merging with one another can lead to interacting the audience and wanting them to come back to continue to watch this film. An example of a film which merges with another genre is Alien, as in this film the film producers have created it to be horror but with comedy in it so the audience are not getting bored and distracted. The cross generosity in horror films is they overlap with other films which contain a sense of horror in them as this is one way that the audience can be entertained and encouraged to continue to watch.

4. Two classic examples of films could be:
- The Alien
-The Abnormal Film

5. The NUN is different from 'The Alien' as The NUN doesn't have any comedy in it whereas 'The Alien' does. However, they are both still classed as horror films.

Extension Task
Using repetition is where one product is repeated several times use some of the same. For example going to the cinema to watch the same film once more.

Difference means keeping some elements the same but changing some aspects of the product. its important to get the balance of repetition and difference right as it can really put off individuals from going to watch what they went for. For example, going to watch a horror film but they generally went for Comedy. If the balance isn't right for a product then it is most likely to be less successful.
