Newspaper

1. The three news items I have picked are about Prince Charles, Joe Hart and interest of petrol because these are the three most popular and have a working class background.
2.I chose Prince Charles as he is someone that is from high class and is well known by the target audience. He is presented as being an important person in the media as he is well known and popular in todays society.  This has news value as most people have interest in knowing about the Royal family and what they are doing. The target audience would be male and females which are educated about the royal family and how high of a population they have.
I also chose Joe hart as he is a popular footballer and is a a maximum age which means he may be at the stage of retiring. The target audience would be male which are particularly interested in football and are supporters. For example, a football fan would be watching Joe Hart as he is known well by them. Whereas a none football supporter wouldn't really read something about him if they don't know him well enough. A sense of 'Proximity' as the closer the event is coming the more likely people are wanting to know.
I also chose the interest of petrol as this impacts multiple people because they will be planning to get a house soon and will have to pay the interest. This is a sense of negativity as it would cost individuals more than they thought when putting petrol in their car. This has higher news value as people need to know about the interest as it is a common thing for people who use cars daily. This is a high target audience of male and women which are highly educated and it has a sense of proximity in the news. A sense of 'negativity' as bad news always has a higher news value than good news.

Magazine Front Cover

Bella Hadid is represented as a confident, beautiful woman who knows what she wants. Things that challenge the stereotypes in this cover could be the way in which she's dressed. It looks like she's wearing a top which doesn't show her cleavage, usually most magazine covers show this to attract male gaze, also, her hair is slicked back which also goes against  stereotypes as you usually associate males with slicked back black hair.
Things that reinforce stereotypes are how thin the model is, you can see her arms are really thin which reinforces the stereotype that women look pretty when they are thin. Her makeup is really natural which shows she is naturally beautiful. Also, the way her finger is in her mouth attracts male gaze as it looks sexual. The shot is mainly focusing on her arms and face which again attracts male gaze. She is represented as a young american woman from a high class.

Construction of Representations in the News

They tell the audience how many people were killed and therefore sets its importance in the news. It is bad news so has a higher news value than any good news. Also, because it is the United States and it is culturally similar to the United Kingdom, it could also be spoken widely about within the UK and will probably be shown in the news. If the news is fairly new and is aired before other similar news channels then it will get noticed faster and possibly have more viewers. It isn't odd anymore to hear of shootings etc in America. However, whenever one does happen it is still quite surprising around the  amount of people who are killed or shot innocently because of nothing. Stories like this involve the readers emotionally as they can imagine how it must feel for the families of the victims to lose somebody close to their heart.

Stereotypes in EastEnders

In Eastenders the character Karen Taylor follows a typical part in a British soap opera which is a single parent with children in a small household. Karen Taylor plays a very interesting character, because when she first entered Albert square many people expected her to be the type of person that steals and has no value or respect. However, she proved the other characters wrong in the soap as she does not steal from other people and fends for herself, what people thought about her wasn't true.

This advert is a good example of a print advert as it shows its audience Heinz has the best ketchup made out of fresh red tomatoes, as i...
