1- Explain one way that red has been used of the front cover of the Radio Times to create meaning for the audience. (2)
Red has connotations of danger which could imply what is going to happen in the film.
2- Explain one way that either the headline or strapline on the front cover of the radio times creates interest in the doctors' new companion (2)
The strapline creates interest as it makes the audience question who she is and her purpose.
3- Explain two ways that the images on the front of the radio times generate meaning for the audience.
4- Explain what is meant by the term ‘preferred reading’, using one example from any media text that you have studied.
This is when audiences respond to the product the way media producers want/expect them to. An example of preferred reading could be a pregnancy test saying 'the best news in the world' to different people this could mean being pregnant, or not being pregnant as being the 'best news'.
5- Explain two ways that typography is used on the front cover of the Big Issue to create meaning for the reader.
The large text saying ‘WORST’ in bold font has connotations that the worst has not yet happened in America which makes the audience intrigued.
Another way typography has been used is using ellipses which have connotations of never ending and there are more bad times to come.
6- Explain two ways that design principles have been used on the front cover of the Big Issue to create meaning for the audience.
One way where design principles have been used to create meaning is through the use of Donald Trump having a head larger than the size of the Earth, this could show the audience that he thinks the Earth revolves around him and mirrors his ego.
Another way in which design principles have been used is through the use of the UK's worst enemy, Russia, on an eagle which has connotations of power, it is small in comparison to Trump showing he is a larger threat to the UK and the World, even worse than their own enemies.
7- Analyse the ways in which image manipulation has been used to create specific representations on the Big Issue front cover.
8- Analyse how the character has been represented on this cover of the Big Issue.
9- Explain the term ‘hypodermic model’ using one example from any media text you have studied.
The hypodermic syringe model is a model of communication suggesting that an intended message is directly received and accepted wholly by the audience. It has criticisms as people are of different ages, genders, religions and believe in different things.
10- With specific reference to the Luther DVD front and back cover, discuss how media texts can be interpreted differently by different audiences.
11- Analyse how masculinity is represented in any media texts that you have studied. You may choose to refer to the Luther DVD front and back cover as part of your response.
12- Evaluate how media texts represent reality using example(s) from media texts that you have studied.
